confrontation at the WTO ....

Korean farmers were at the frontlines forming a blockcade only broken when they agreed to peacefully surrender to Hong Kong police, late in the evening after a strategy of protest lasting throughout the day.

'Sinagbayan' seen here during the Peoples Camp & Rice Festival highlighting the WTO & the ill-effects of the  “Agreement on Agriculture”  is a grassroots cultural organization of alternative artists based in the Philippines,  just one of the various actions against the status quo of the WTO.

global response to areas in crisis still lacking in measured resources ... at the core of this criticism is not only that more could be done but a suggestion to set up a permanent global response team to evaluate & form an adequate reply to disasters or global events that require efforts that reach beyond the resources of local & regional governments .. furthermore the UN suggestion that relief would have to stop when funding runs out is like a corporation not being able to secure more funds when necessary to continue operations .. with tens of thousands of lives on the line we must find new ways to work out the problems that confront the mission ...

march to the front .. HALF TRUTHS ARE SOMETIMES BETTER THAN NO TRUTHS .. HALF A MILLION STRONG ATTEND RALLY AT THE CAPITAL ... it seems that the corporate press cannot report the truth even when confronted with empirical evidence .. inaccurate reporting of tens of thousands by national news outlets when in fact discussion at the scene resolved the attendance at around 500,000 troubles this reporter .. 'all the truth that's fit to print' is no longer the standard that the media holds high .. on the other side the troubling cover of 'the independent' makes it hard for some to look at the truth .. let's not sugar coating anything except sore throats and/or almonds .. distortions add to a national divide that gets wider each & every day .. the pressure is building & this outlet is carefully reviewing its processes to better serve a community that wants a filter that clearly sees the truth even when clouded by hidden agendas  ed/marcos

beware of warlocks on the warpath the upcoming rally will send one million kids around & around the capital shouting 'stop the War' will our voices be heard this time or fall on deaf ears once again .. only time will tell .. rocking the city with a musical concert not heard since the 'chili peppers' closed the show at RFK .. the streets ate ours for the weekend .. let's leave them cleaner & smarter then when we came to town .. legal #'s -- action medical .. on the way

This is beyond belief, the US has lost its way as the current crisis in Louisiana proves as time goes by.  In the beginning, what did the state and US governments do except issue evacuation orders, what was done during the days before the storm hit, where was the plan to reinforce Lake Pontchartrain, where was the national guard, where was the pre-plan. "What failed were actually floodwalls .. caused by fast moving category 3 hurricane. Katrina was a strong 4 at landfall, and conditions exceeded the design" Army Corps of Engineers US federal troops should be out working on the relief effort for the victims, protecting the life & liberty of the citizens of New Orleans. Images of our national guard with shotguns instead of helping hands has just put my belief in America to the test.  I've had enough of President Bush at military rallies, standing at public events with generals at his side, just what kind of democracy have we allowed ourselves to be part of, when will we as Americans come to our senses, demanding that our representative government respond to our collective voices.

Antiwar March in Washington now united as the two major coalitions that initiated and organized a March on Washington have agreed to a joint rally followed by a joint march. Both coalitions will organize under their own banners & slogans. We urge everyone around the country to come out for the antiwar demonstration on September 24. The text was signed on the same line, by ANSWER and United for Peace & Justice. Operation Ceasefire has a 3pm concert planned at the Washington Monument.   www.opceasefire.org

The nightmare continues with the illegal and immoral U.S. invasion of Iraq a once sovereign nation, now  in ruins under the military and corporate occupation of the United States ... U.S. promises to rebuild have not been kept and many Iraqis still lack clean water, electricity, and most importantly personal safety. A majority of Americans now believe that this war never should have happened ... elected representatives in Washington continue to rubber-stamp the Bush Administration's disastrous Iraq policies ... giving the Pentagon nearly unrestricted access to our tax dollars & military recruiters nearly unrestricted access to our schools ... at a time when our vital social programs are eroding an overwhelming majority in Congress recently approved $82 billion in war funding & there's already talk of another $50 billion appropriation this fall. It's time to hold all pro-war politicians accountable for the deaths, the destruction, the lies, and the toll on our communities!  Join United for Peace & Justice in Washington.

Protesters clash with security forces in Scotland today, the opening day of the G8 summit. Various groups planning to blockade the summit by demonstrating outside the Gleneagles hotel have met with police protecting the G8 from the global community calling for change in the way we conduct our lives on planet earth. Actions & demonstrations are planned throughout Scotland & communities around the globe.   http://www.indymedia.org.uk/en/actions/2005/g8

Kruger will not be destroying this wilderness as a Quebec Superior Court has forbid it from logging Rene-Levasseur Island in northeastern Quebec.

Let's step back in time say 214 million years ago to the Mesozoic era, the first dinosaurs have recently appeared. They will reign for approximately 150 Million years, the earth is a very different place, with only one continent that we call Pangea.  An immense meteorite descends on earth, the impact crater is flooded to become the Manic 5 dam's reservoir, forming what we now know as the Rene-Levasseur Island. A geological event that should be left undisturbed,  the crater has long been surrounded by many lakes and rivers, but it is during the sixties that the island's appearance changed the Manic 5 dam artificially raised the water level (for it's reservoir) to create an Island. An ancient forest, the Rene-Levasseur abutts an old growth forest.

Old Growth forests are disappearing at an increasing rate this is due to humanity's overexploitation of it's natural resources. This ecocide seems to occur unchallenged and seems to be encouraged by industry and our respective governments. It imperils biodiversity with the loss of thousands of species each year, each one of them unique and irreplaceable. Habitat loss & degradation are the leading causes of species' extinction. It is generally accepted by most scientists as a direct threat to the continuation of life on earth. Our life support systems are becoming more and more fragile, as we continue to dismantle them through our Industrial activities.

We as members of humanity are directly responsible for the protection of the few remaining Old Growth Forests. The Island , has been spared from forest fires because of the waterways surrounding it. Ever since the Manic 5 reservoir flooded the lower forests, the island has sheltered a rich, complex and diversified ecosystem that has not been studied extensively and consequently is not well understood. The reservoir also had the effect of rendering the island difficult of access, making logging on the island economically unfeasible until very recently.

Despite the rich ecological characteristics of the Island, there is no complete inventory of the flora and fauna that inhabits the island, exception in the case of species of "commercial interest" such as the Moose. American Marten, Black Backed Woodpecker, Three Toed Woodpecker, Canadian Lynx, Woodland Caribou, Wolf, Black Bear, Moose, Fox, Treecreeper, Wolverine are all believed to inhabit the region.

Kruger's Manic Sawmill .....

Kruger's first activity on the island was to set up access points for the island's future exploitation. According to Kruger, 260 000 cubic metres of wood will be extracted from the island's forests. The barge permits the passage of timber trucks from one side of the island to the other, is now in operation. The barge will operate from the end of May until mid December, which corresponds to the ice free period, 24 hourCanadian Lynx s/day, five days a week. Forest interventions are intended for the coming fall. Approximately 40 000 litres of diesel fuel will be transported on the barge every week of operation. Kruger estimates that it will take 50 years to log the all the unprotected areas, can we call this Sustainable Development? General endangerment of biodiversity and destructive impacts are some of the problems caused by logging in remote areas.

Kruger Inc. one of the four largest pulp and paper companies in Canada, located in Quebec, also logs in the United Stated, Venezuela, the United Kingdom and Colombia ..... headquartered in Montreal, Kruger produces 2.2 million metric tones of paper each year. Consider boycotting Kruger paper products: Cottonelle, White Swan, Purex, Soft & Pure, Capri , Viva, Scotties, Scott Napkins, Scott Towels

Avoid wasteful consumption of paper as a general rule
